Terms & Conditions

CONTRACTS, HOURS, MINIMUM HOURS, PAYMENT

Billable Services. Billable services include not only time spent on site in your space sorting, but also, meetings at your home or office or place of business, phone calls with you, time spent preparing for the sort (writing emails, researching containers, etc.), and other off-site work undertaken on your behalf.

Booking. When you book a session, your credit card number will taken to hold the time for you.

Cancellations. When you book an appointment with me, that time slot is reserved exclusively for you and becomes unavailable for anyone else to use. If, for some reason other than a true emergency or serious illness, you need to cancel or change our appointment, provide notice of cancellation 48-hours in advance.

If you forget or neglect to do this, you will still be charged the full fee for the entire session. This fee may be waived or adjusted at my discretion.

Expenses. Direct expenses of service — including, but not limited to, copying, messenger services/shipping fees/delivery charges, boxes, containers, parking, tolls and other transportation charges/overnight charges — are your responsibility. They will be billed to you at the end of the project, or, depending on the timing and project, provided directly by you.

Hiring Me. A signed contract is required prior to the start of any project. For Four & Eight-Hour Sorts, payment is due in full at the beginning of the day. If we’re undertaking a Two Day Sort or a longer sort, half is due at the beginning of the project and half at the end of the project.

Methods & Terms of Payment. I accept payment by cash, check, or credit card. There will be a charge of $35 for any check returned for insufficient funds or any bank draft item that is not payable for any reason, as well as additional collection and/or legal fees to compensate for overdraft charges and unpaid account balances. Payment is due in full at the beginning of each project.

Minimum Hours Per Appointment. A deep sort requires at least four hours and maybe more, depending upon the space and the goals for that space. Really effective organizing sessions of shorter duration too often do not produce optimal results. The mini-sort I offer is to give you a boost in your quest to tackle your other sorting projects. One completely organized and clean space is a great motivator for creating order and calm in other parts of your abode.

Scheduling. Schedules are set by mutual agreement.

Travel Time. The first hour of travel time is free. After that, travel time is billed at my hourly rate.  Travel fees may be waived at my discretion.

BELONGINGS, FOCUS, PERFORMANCE, PRIVACY, SERVICE, THE SORT, & WORK

Disposition of Belongings. I do not determine the disposition your belongings, that decision is made by you based on a set of criteria we establish. I help you make decisions. I’m your sounding-board. The final decision is always yours. Therefore you, the Client, are responsible for any loss or damage resulting from the discarding or destroying of any records or personal effects. You agree to make final decisions about disposition of items.

Focus. It is very important that we focus on the session. Therefore, you must make arrangements for handling incoming phone calls, re-directing visitors, childcare etc. so that sessions are not interrupted.

Performance. My goal is to deliver to you a calmer space, . It’s my responsibility to assess your situation and help you make the changes you want. If we fail to meet any realistic expectations, we’ll discuss next steps and go one from there.

Project milestones will be mutually determined to set the scope of the project.

Privacy & Confidentiality. Given the sensitive nature of the work we do and the high level of trust it requires you to place in me, Clients can be assured of absolute privacy when working with me. Though not yet a member of the National Association of Professional Organizers, I adhere strictly to its Code of Ethics which emphasizes confidentiality, honesty and integrity.

Sorting stories and case studies may be written based on work done for you. Names will be withheld and only the challenges of the sort and the goal attained will be shared. Photos may also be taken of dramatic change to spaces to illustrate how well we did creating calm in your home.

Service Area. Calmology provides services within an hour travel time of the city centers Washington, D.C. and New York City.

Service Duration. I agree to implement the proposed solutions within our agreed-upon time period, as discussed with you, and for the price agreed upon.

Supplies. You are responsible for paying for all agreed-upon supplies (file folders, labels, labeling tape, storage containers, shelving, etc.) necessary for the completion of the project.

The three options for purchasing supplies are these:

  • I’ll make suggestions about what supplies should be purchased and you will do the shopping.
  • I’ll shop and purchase supplies without you being present and make arrangements to have those supplies delivered to your home.
  • We’ll shop for supplies together.

My standard, hourly rate will apply for shopping and returns. Receipts for any money I spend on your behalf will be added to the expense invoice presented at the end of the project.

Work Related to Sorting. Although getting organized is an ideal time to clean, my time is better spent helping you sort through and decide upon the disposition of belongings. Cleaning is also best delayed to after the sorting and clearing as we’ll be liberating space.

Work Team. You are required to be present during organizing sessions and to assist with the projects, unless otherwise agreed. Any other adult age 18 years old and over whose space is being affected (i.e. family member) should be present for our introduction.
